The joy we find together

As shared by @deneabuckingham

"Filming for @discover.humanity in the #Cambodian village of Kompong Khleang taught me so much about joy. Here the people live in the low end of the economic spectrum. The children have few 'toys' as our Western culture knows them, clothing gets passed down for generations until it is unwearable, and most families live a hand-to-mouth existence with the fathers often leaving for long fishing or farming trips just to keep their families fed. Most Westerners couldn't imagine living this way and regard the people of this kind of village with pity. But what struck me the most about the residents of #KompongKhleang was not their poverty, but the resplendent joy with which they live every day. The children laugh, they play together climbing trees, getting dirty, being creative in the genius ways children know how. Families spend time together, they cook together, tell stories, enjoying those human connections that we forfeit with such seeming ease in exchange for the comforts of modernity."
