Finding our way to each other

As shared by @josh28martin

"This is a 5 year old picture of me and a kid named Jayce. It took place at an annual summer camp in #Ohsweken, a village on the Six Nations of #GrandRiver, the largest First Nations reserve in Canada. Although It has always been my passion to work as a volunteer at a youth program every school year, I really needed a break that summer. I believe that is why we both did not get along at first. He didn't like me and I didn't like him either. I'd roll my eyes every time he acted out and misbehaved, questioning myself why I ever agreed to overextend myself in the first place. It wasn't until I enforced a time out that we both started to get along. From that moment, we were too tired to hate each other. We both quietly stared at the same blue sky, as if we both settled for a truce. Just as he peacefully restored himself, so did my patience. It was then that I realized he wasn't so bad after all. We then got along to the point we ended up missing each other a year later. Like me and everyone else, we all need guidance from time to time. Every now and then, people can and will lose their way in life. It shouldn't always mean that we give up on them, or that they're not worth helping out just because they disappoint. Hopefully, this story inspires for people in their journey. Jayce and I were lost in the beginning, only to have found each other and ourselves at the end. Never did I think we'd turn around and smiled the way we did. Shout out to the amazing strong mother @alecia5479, @sarahlnicolee for taking this timeless photo, all the leaders @snteensconnect, volunteers, the teens and the kids at Ohsweken. You're all a part of this ongoing journey too. "
