Feet on the earth
As shared by @s.mazzu
"This is me, Sofi, a nutrition health coach from #BuenosAires and the photo was shooted while working on my vegetable garden.
A good title for the photo could be 'With our Feet [& Hands] on DIRT'.
We should get dirty more often, our growing hygiene obsession doesn’t let us realize how negatively is affecting on our immune system (specially on kids) not being in contact with the soil and the earth more often. Our microbiome, the communities of bacteria that reside in our bodies and whose balance depends our overall health, is being highly damaged because we have no diversity of microbes in our environment. This doesn´t allow our antibodies to build properly and 'killing 99.9% of bacteria' means all bacteria, the bad ones and the good ones, ours, too.
Allergies, asthma and skin conditions are growing extremely rapidly, and it is directly linked to the loss of microbial biodiversity.
The more exposure the more diversity, exposer ourselves and our kids more! Play in the soil, in the garden, play with animals! We need more diversity of microbes in our environment and our daily lives.
Ah... and I'm drinking 'Mate', a traditional Argentine infused drink. It is made by soaking dried leaves of the yerba mate plant in hot water and is served with a metal straw in a container usually made from calabash gourd."
